I'm back

I haven't posted in ages. Studying has taken it's toll.

In the last couple of months, I :
-survived semester 1 & 2 in my quest to get a bachelor's degree in Information science.
-turned 31 (I'm old :-))
-went on vacation to Copenhagen & Sweden
-bought myself a Kindle

The icon is from my current obsession. I watched Downton Abbey online, then bought the Season 1 DVD's and I seriously ship Matthew/Mary hardcore. They need to get together and stop breaking my heart every episode. Last Sunday, I stayed up til 2 o'clock to watch the newest episode, just because I couldn't wait to see it.

The third semester has started. I'm mentoring a group of first semesters. And two weeks into the semester, I'm already developing a serious hate of the constant group work. I get the uses, I just don't like it.

I'm very much in love with my Kindle. I read so much more now, I've started to read even in the short time between me getting off the bus and arriving at work. And the text-to-speech is very practical for the times, when you have to do the dishes, but want to keep reading. Obviously, it's not the same thing as an audiobook. I doubt for example that the robotic voice of the Kindle would have made me cry the way Stephen Fry did with "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows".

Loved the fall finale of Glee. Can it be April, like now?

I was sick again this week. I think it's because my coworker only works 60% since September. Because I basically do 140%, I'm tired all the time and lack energy. I need to take this up with my boss. I can't go on like this. Why is so hard to ask for help?

I still haven't found a new roommate. There were a few that were interested, but a lot of them never showed up for our meetings. It's really annoying. There must be someone out there, who I like and who wants to live with me, right?

TSR1 (Television de la Suisse Romande) starts showing Heroes in double channel tone tonight. I love this channel, but seriously, they need a better promo department. They almost never show promos. I wouldn't even know it was on if I hadn't decided to check out their website. I didn't even know they had procured the rights to Heroes.

Their programming is quite good. Monday they show blockbusters, Tuesday 2 episodes of Heroes, Wednesday 2 episodes of one of the many CSI's, Thursday starts the new season of Lost (3 episodes), Friday Grey's Anatomy (3 episodes), Saturday nothing cool, Sunday 2 episodes CSI NY followed by an episode of Without a Trace. Thank god for my DVR.

Not quite the rollercoaster ride of last week, but good none the less.

God, how much do I love this show. I actually came home over lunch just to start downloading the episode, so it would be ready by the time I came home from my Italian Class.

Heroes (possible Spoilers) )

Apparently SF 2 is planning on airing Arrested Development starting May 22 in double channel tone. Cool, I mean, I've seen it already, but it once again good programming and shows that we don't pay the high licence fee for nothing. I've told Shirley that she should check it out. I have a feeling that you either love AD or you don't.

So awesome!

I just saw the latest episode of Heroes and OMG, it's so awesome! The break is gonna be so long...

I still haven't called my grandma. I did see her though today at the busstop. We didn't talk long, but she's seems up to what I suggested. I'm gonna call her tomorrow so we can talk about the details.

I watched Torchwood, the Doctor Who spinoff, this weekend. I liked it. There are some bits that are in need of finetuning, the writing isn't stellar so far. But I'll totally be checking out Series 2. Oh my god, it's gonna take so long until the show comes to Germany or Switzerland...

The newest episode of Heroes was awesome, as usual. I love the show, it's my favourite new show this TV season. And it's probably gonna take at least 2 years til Heroes is released on DVD in Region 2... That's just a wild guess. It's kinda depressing to think about things in these terms. The globalisation that everybody's talking about is really slow in terms of TV rights/distribution/DVD releases etc. Don't even get me started on the sad fact that as a consumer who doesn't live in the US, you feel like a second class consumer. Not only get DVD's released months, if not years, later than in Region 1, some shows never even get released here. Or if they release them, they release them in two parts, making you pay double (eg. CSI, Gilmore Girls, Desperate Housewifes, Lost). Or you get the complete season, but they don't include the extras that are on the Region 1 DVDs. How hard is it to subtitle an extra? I'm just saying, the powers that be really shouldn't be surprised that people are importing Region 1 DVDs. Isn't the customer supposed to be king? As a consumer, I'm simply not feeling the love here, people.

My favorite Swiss Hockey team, the Zurich Lions are up 2-0 in the first Playoff Series. Awesome! And really unexpected, 'cause they barely made the Playoffs and were playing badly most of the season.

A new fan

Last week, I loaned my Veronica Mars Season 1 DVD's to Shirley. She watched it all weekend, came in today and asked, no begged, for my Season 2 DVD's. She's addicted now. I love the fact that I have someone that's equally crazy about my girl V as I am. I cannot wait for the next episode and the conclusion of the rape mystery tomorrow. I do hope they pull it off though, and the rapist is not one of feminists, that would seriously piss me off. But the trailer looks very exciting.

I'm still not feeling okay. I feel really tired and I don't whether it's because of the frakking PMS or because I'm sick. My digestive system is in an uproar. I was cold all day at work. If I still feel as bad as today, I'm so gonna stay home tomorrow. The stupid list that I've been working on for about two weeks can wait...

Battlestar Galactica is the best written and most thought provocative show on the TV right now. Season 3 has been amazing so far. But it's not light fare, a show that deals with the rest of humanity trying to find earth simply can't be. This season alone they dealt with occupation, insurgents, suicide bombings, secret trials and genocide. What I love about the show is that it shows different viewpoints without telling you what to think. And that makes you think about the subject. What would you do? Could you commit genocide on a race you're at war with if that saves your own? Could you? I like the fact that they don't portray things as black and white, but as one big gray area. You kinda see not only see someone's point of view, you see everybody's. And you find yourself agreeing with all of them.

My current TV Show obsession is "Dead Like Me". It's a dark comedy show about a 18 year old girl that gets killed by a toilet seat and recruited as a grim reaper. While she's reaping souls, she also has to work for a living, because grim reapers don't get payed through proper channels. She works at a temp agency called Happy Time. It's a great show who makes you think about life and death, the absurdity of it all and the fact that you need to live your life today, because you can't be sure that there is a tomorrow for you.

This weekend the Knabenschiessen takes place here in Zurich. I kinda love that, going on rides and eating unhealthy stuff is always fun. Plus, it has the added benefit of being the one weekend where there are a lot of Number 13 trams going my way. You never have to wait. I'll go tomorrow with Cornelia.
